Undressing… hitting on the freezing water…yes sign me up for that!
How did I spend my New Year’s Day? By heading to my old neighborhood of Coney Island and plunging into the freezing water. Yes it was a sunny and balmy 48 degrees but the water was just freezing.
I honor the commitment of jumping into the water, facing my fear of getting undressed into a swimsuit in the middle of winter and getting a full body cleanse thanks to Mother Earth.
The water was freezing cold. At the beginning I was like this is not that bad. I can totally spend hours here and then the bone chilling cold hit my legs. It was time to head out of the water. It was an amazing experience that I look forward doing again next year where we may have snow in the sand.
Here is what I learned from this experience:
- Despite the freezing cold water, this was so much fun!
- I have a brave group of friends who are not only willing to go to the water once, we can do it a couple of times
- I can fake it til I make it
- Facing these fears prepare me to face the bigger ones that have been on the shelf for too long and I am ready to go through them
I want to hear from you, how did you spend your New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day? Any fun rituals or superstitions?
